LHS juniors Chunxiao Lu and Xinhui Lu, along with Kerisha Ramchandani, who attends High Tech High School and Xinyi Fan,, a student at Kent Place school, formed the group under auspices of the Chinese-American Family Coalition ( CAFC).

The CAFC had been founded in 2006 by Angie Ngai, to focus on the communication of culture between American and China. Ngai is the executive director and encouraged the teens to establish their program.

” they are the second generation of Asians, and have had different experiences in different countries.”” Ngai said. “‘ I believe they will connect American and Asia well in the future”.

The teens sold Chinese ta and other items at the festival to raise money for the CFAC’s charity programs.

” It is a good chance to serve the community” Sid Xinhui who helped setup the event and manned the sales table. ” I learned a lot of skills to communicate with others”

Chunxiao displayed 15 of her Chinese traditional paintings, including birds standing on a cliff and lotus blooming in a pond. She studies both traditional Chinese and western oil painting and seeks to keep a balance between the two.

Chunxiao also played a guzheng, an ancient Chinese musical instrument, to accompany Ngai as she demonstrated a traditional tea ceremony during the festival.

” The relationship between the tow countries is tending to get worse” explained Chunxiao, who was born in Beijing, China and moved to the U.S. in 2013. “I wander is the tow countries, I can speak Chinese and English, I learn Chinese culture and American’s as well. I hope I would make my part to do something to fix it” She called her art ” a soft power to achieve my goal.”

The teens hope that their organization will help spread Chinese Culture be a bridge between American and Asian and serve the community.
