2018 Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month (APAHM)

On May 3, 2018, the United States Immigration Bureau Building, Nestled in New Jersey, sounded a sound of zither as the scent of Chinese herbal tea permeated the air. On the same day, CAFC hosted the Immigration Bureau’s ” 2018 Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month (APAHM) ” event to showcase the sophistication and richness of China’s traditional culture.

At the outset of the event, the Immigration Service staff introduced the main elements of the event and screened a documentary on the Asian – Pacific region. Ms. Angie Ngai, CAFC Executive Director, gave a wonderful opening speech. Two other speakers from Mumbai and China shared their American Immigration stories.

Immigration Officer: I have never had such delicious Chinese tea

Ms. Angie Ngai, who always loved Chinese tea culture, demonstrated the traditional Chinese tea art and introduced the Chinese tea culture in detail. She wore a light green flag gown and using an exquisite tea set to perform the tea ceremony with skilled hands and graceful movements. After tea, officials of the Immigration Bureau followed the tea ceremony with interest, as an official said with a smile: ” I have never had such delicious Chinese tea. ”

CAFC’s Ms. Wenxin Zhang performed the GuZheng, the Chinese traditional instrument. The flow of the music seemed to be inspired by a traditional ancient scene of the evening sun casting its last rays of light on a fisherman’s boat while the fishermen were enjoying the beautiful sight of the waves and the waning sun. The music was unique and clearly a picture of the beauty of traditional China. The immigration officials clearly were drawn to the beauty and applauded loudly when the beautiful melody ended.

A well – known Chinese youth singer, Zhang Zhi, who sang a song of Chinese traditional songs, drew a lot of admiring spectators. After the show ended, an Immigration Bureau official of the laughed and said to Zhang, “Your songs have sung to me. ”

In the end, Chinese – American students were dancing Chinese folk dance known as the “Xinjiang Dance.” The graceful dancers were dressed in gorgeous Uygur nationality costume. The pace was brisk, and the style of the Uygur Nationality was so strong that the performance was greeted with immense applause.

After the performance, the immigration officials shook hands with the CAFC staff, saying: ” Thank you for your wonderful performance. Chinese culture is so beautiful!” The Immigration Department officials also issued honorary certificates to the representatives of CAFC, Angie Ngai, Wenxin Zhang, Lin Shiyu and actors Zhi Zhang and Isabel, to commend them for their contribution to the Sino – US cultural exchange.

The Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month (APAHM) is a traditional holiday in the United States, which is scheduled to take place in May every year. There are a number of places to celebrate cultural diversity and to thank the Asian – Pacific people for their contributions to the American society. The theme for this year “Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month (APAHM) ” is ” seeing our vision by working together. ”

For CAFC, which has traditionally been used to promote Chinese traditional culture, it has not been the first to cooperate with the U.S. Immigration Bureau’s official unit’s, “Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month (APAHM) Celebration”. Previously, CAFC has hosted many of the activities of the United Nations, the United States General Administration of Customs, the Bergen County Government of New Jersey ” Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month (APAHM)” celebration.
